Call me Colin

I will be acting one again.

This post is long overdue, (by about two weeks) since I auditioned on the 11th and found out then that I will be doing the play. It is another one act similar to the one I did last year, but a little longer in time and this one is student written. It's also a love story ensemble (as I call it) which is in the same genre as the play I did last year.

However, this character will offer much more of a challenge to play, which is great. I won't go into too many specifics but I'll say that Tom Hanks, Al Pacino (twice), Robert Downey Jr., Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Franco, Sean Penn, Ian McKellen, Colin Firth, Greg Kinnear, Anthony Hopkins and Matt Damon have all played roles similar to this. So those names kind of made me stick with this play, because I feel like it will be good for my craft in the long run.

In a side note:
Someone today asked me "how are you going to have time for this?!?!" in a ridiculing, confrontational, and just plain offensive tone that I did not too much appreciate. I answered it by downplaying my part and saying that it wasn't too important, and it's not that important in the grand scheme of things. It's a one act play, that is student written and student directed, at a small time college on the California coast. Not that big of a deal. But you know what, it's a big deal for me. It's important to me, and that is all that this person who asked me should really care about.

How am I going to find time for this, you ask?

Well, since this is what I want to do more than anything else in this world, since I have a dream in this life that I intent to follow and see through till the end, I think I am going to take this pretty serious, and I think I am going to make some time for it.

To the person who asked that question, you don't need to worry about how I am going to make time for this, or how much time I am going to take for this. If it means sleeping one less hour a night to practice lines, fine. But the really answer is: I am going to take however much time I need to give this character the life and respect he deserves, so that when I am out there under the lights, I get it right.

Much more soon to come... because I'm back behind the curtain.
